This is the website of my particular section of the Genner Clan. My name is Kevin Genner, but for the purposes of "doing the web thing"; I tend to be known "Dodgy" or "The Kev", For what it is worth; this is the Kevin Genner home page, entitled; "The Kev".
I (for my many & hopefully ongoing sins) am a fully qualified computer engineer who moved to Telford (Shropshire) with my parents (Maxwell Genner & Hazel Genner), brothers (Levison & Mitchell) and sisters (Mandy, Beverley & Hayley) from Brierley Hill sometime around 1966.
My wife (Joanne Genner) & I are now making a living by running my own businesses. We began by working from the dining room in our family home (in Stirchley, Telford) undertaking Computer Repair in Telford and Computer Repair in Shrewsbury. However, a side-line of this was Genner Communications UK which supplies Windows Recovery CDs, Car Workshop manuals and Motorcycle Workshop Manuals. This side of the business became very successful.
Basically; Genner Communications exceeded all expectations. We became (and still are) Microsoft Partners and we worked with most major PC manufacturers to source & supply Recovery CDs world wide. We also offered a download facility.
Microsoft ceased supporting Windows XP in January 2009. On 8th January 2009, Noel Hitch and I attended an all day meeting with Microsoft where they effectively withdrew permission for us to supply Windows Recovery CDs. However, since they understood that we provide a valuable and worthwhile service and because this would effectively close our Recovery CD businesses (Windows UK Recovery CDs - Restore CDs and Windows USA - Canada Recovery CDs - Restore CDs) Microsoft asked us to supply Windows UK Computer Drivers and Windows USA - Canada Computer Drivers.
This has obviously had a big impact on our business and finances during the Recession and we found that our overheads remained the same, but profitability was reduced by approx 80% and it has now taken over a year to "re-invent" the business. We are now developing and populating a series of new projects such as local directories such as Telford Websites and Shrewsbury Websites.

When last working for someone else, I was employed by Maztec (parent company; MJC) of Stourport on Severn as a field service engineer travelling the UK fixing PCs for Comet, Micro Direct & a few other companies. Although I really enjoyed the work (real job satisfaction), the travelling was horrendous in that I was travelling approx 2000 miles per week, over 110,000 miles in a year & fixed an average of 5 PCs per day at different locations around the UK.
I eventually came to the conclusion that I was simply far too busy earning a living to make any money, & so needed to take "the gamble" and work for myself. However, I was finally "forced" to leave when I was returning home to Telford after a long day working in Cumbria. As I was travelling in the central lane of the M6, I fell asleep at the wheel and almost crashed into a truck.
I left MJC and trained myself to create websites whilst my wife (Joanne Genner) returned to work at Iceland. I practiced by developing www.sellthings.net (which is very basic) whilst supplementing our income by occasionally fixing PC`s, laptops, setting up computer networks, computer consultancy work etc.

I support Manchester United and we go to matches as a family whenever possible.
I have been married to Joanne for 20 years, & we live with our 3 children (Matthew, Liam & Ryan) in Stirchley in Telford, England. I also have three other children from two previous marriages.
My daughter; Lisa (my eldest child) currently works at Icelend. Lisa married to Philip Walton at Much Wenlock church in April 2004 & now their first child (Noah). Her husband; Phil really is a nice guy who headed the Genner Sales General Office. Phil is will be joining the RAF in January 2010 (at the same time as Matthew). Phil is a big Birmingham City fan who also plays football (soccer) for "Randlay 07" (with Matthew).
My eldest son; Kyle Genner served in The Royal Logistic Corps of the British Army but has now left the forces and moved back to Durham. Kyle is currently studying to become a PE Teacher.
My son; Matthew Genner (aged 20) is "heavily into" football (soccer) & "juggles" working in the family business & worked at Iceland prior to leaving to join the RAF. Matty is an exceptionally good footballer & is a good, hard working lad. Matthew & his long term girlfriend; Karla Hill (who also worked for us and is like another daughter) will probably do well in whatever they choose. Matty has applied to and has been accepted in the RAF (he starts his 9wks basic training in January 2010).
My youngest son; Ryan Genner is the baby of the Genner family. He is a clever boy and is no-ones fool. Ryan was named after Ryan Giggs. His main interests are air cadets and football (soccer). However, he has now discovered books & he delights in reading. Ryans ambition is to become an Airplane pilot, and if he applies himself - I am quite certain that he will succeed. He currently attends air cadets twice a week and seems to enjoy it.

Recent
employment; In 1996, I worked as a
Computer Engineer for Mitac
Computers in Telford. Mitac used to build the Compaq Presario Computers. PSM
Microcomputer's were looking for someone to run the Compaq maintenance & repair
dept`
& I got the job.

PSM put me through my Azlan - Compaq accreditations, & treated me very, very well apart from a few bad days (we all have them). They were a great bunch of lads, decent working conditions & I got to repair lots of Compaq servers, laptops & business PCs (I like HP and Compaq) & was reasonably well paid for it. PSM Computer were taken over by Syan in 2008.
However; after a few years PSM`s rating with Compaq had increased to the point where we were No1 in Europe, I was head hunted. Arrogance took over and I moved to Dataworld (UK).
Dataworld UK was a local (Telford) company with good products & staff. But my role (Internal IT support, 2nd & 3rd level IT support & new product development) did not suit my temperament as much as the high degree of specialisation at PSM (where I was in charge of Compaq & Mitsubishi systems & all monitor maintenance/repairs). Dataworld failed in 2009.
I left Dataworld in 2003 to work for Maztec; travelling the country (110,000 miles per year in a Mitsubishi Charisma) repairing and installing computer systems for various insurance companies. Rather than dying in the fast lane of some motorway or losing my driving license, I decided to work for myself & left Maztec in January 2004.
What I like
Current Projects
All the best; Kev Genner
